Ascend Electronics® standard Autotransformers are often used to step up or down between voltages in the 110-117-120 volt range and voltages in the 220-230-240 volt range, e.g., to output either 110, 115, or 120V (with taps) from 230V input, allowing equipment from a 100 or 120V region to be used in a 230V region respectively equipment from a 230V region to be used in a 110/120 volt region. A second application is to increase the voltage to compensate for line loss, for example, from 110V back to 120V.

Please also refer to Ascend Electronics® Voltage Booster especially designed for that purpose! The Ascend Electronics Voltage Boosters are smaller, lighter, and cheaper than a standard autotransformer and much more affordable and smaller than a dual-winding transformer; however, neither the autotransformer nor the voltage booster does provide electrical isolation.

Many Ascend Electronics® Autotransformers have multiple output taps to select the correct output voltage in an application!

Autotransformers

The standard configuration of our Autotransformers provides a single winding with two end terminals and one or more terminals at intermediate tap points. Secondary can be stepped up or stepped down. The exact voltage dependence on the Autotransformer configuration. (See below and refer to the data sheet.) Ascend Electronics® manufactures Autotransformers for single and for three-phase applications.
