Inherent advantages of the toroidal (ring, donut-shaped core) transformer relative to other core configurations:
- nearly ideal magnetic circuit, which results in
- lower stray magnetic field
- less volume and weight
- less audible hum
- higher efficiency (perfect for stray magnetic field sensitive circuitry)

Standard configuration of our Autotransformers provides a single winding with two end terminals, and one or more terminals at intermediate tap points. Secondary can be stepped up or stepped down. The exact voltage dependence on the Autotransformer configuration. (See below and reference to data sheet.) Ascend Electronics manufactures Autotransformers for single and for three phase applications.
